Year 6 Residential 2027 is open to book on Arbor!

We are delighted to announce that we will be returning to Marchants Hill for our Year 6 residential visit. While our residential has been held at a different venue over the past few years, we have decided to return to Marchants Hill, a centre that has been enjoyed by pupils from our school in previous years. After carefully reviewing the options available, we feel that the wide range of activities, excellent facilities and focus on personal development offered by PGL make Marchants Hill an ideal venue for our Year 6 children. We are also pleased that the cost is comparable to that of our recent residential visits, allowing us to offer a high-quality experience that provides excellent value for families.

The residential is run by PGL, one of the UK's leading providers of outdoor education and adventure experiences. During their stay, children will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities designed to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills in a safe and supportive environment.

The residential will take place from 17th-19th May, immediately following SATs week. We feel this will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to celebrate the hard work and dedication they have shown in preparing for their SATs, as well as recognise their achievements throughout their time at primary school. It will give them the chance to create lasting memories with their classmates as they approach the end of their primary school journey.

At this stage, we would like to establish the number of children who will be attending. If you would like your child to take part in the residential, please pay the non-refundable deposit of £45 by 17th September. If this is a problem, please do get in touch with your class teacher or Mrs Burke to discuss.

Please note that payment of the deposit will secure your child's place and confirms your commitment to the trip. By paying the deposit, you are agreeing to pay the remaining balance when requested. Please note the full amount must be paid even if your child decides not to stay overnight or take part in all activities/days.

The final cost of the residential will be £293 per child (including the deposit). You will be able to make payments towards this as you wish, but the full amount must be paid no later than 20th March 2027. We recommend making regular payments over the next 6 months to avoid having to pay the remaining balance in one large payment.

We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity and hope that as many children as possible will be able to join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Bikeability

As part of our Year 6 enrichment programme, we are pleased to offer all pupils the opportunity to take part in cycle training tailored to their ability.

All Year 6 children will attend the Bikeability “Try-it-out” day running on Monday 12 October, delivered by Surrey County Council. During this short session, children will receive basic cycling tuition appropriate for their cycling skills and have a ride on one of Active Surrey’s pool bikes. We will passing your child’s name to SCC/Active Surrey for their register.

If your child has a bike they would like to use for the training, they are welcome to bring it in for the instructors to check it over in advance of the Bikeability Level 2 course.

Following the Try-it-out day, children will be invited to either:

• Try-it-out Extra Practice – for those still developing their cycling skills (Friday 16 October)
• Bikeability Level 2 – for those ready to cycle on local roads with moderate traffic (w/c 9 November)

Bikeability Level 2 equips children with the skills and confidence to ride independently and safely, focusing on four core areas: observation, communication, positioning, and priorities.

• All training is free of charge
• Pool bikes are available for children who do not have access to their own
• Training is delivered by qualified instructors in a risk-assessed area near the school
