Swimming Lessons
As part of the National Curriculum, all children must be taught to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform a safe self-rescue. To enable the children to work towards these requirements, we have booked two lanes with three specialist teachers at the River Bourne Health Club.
Lessons will occur on a Wednesday afternoon. The first session will take place on the first week back to school following the October half term (Wednesday 6th November). Sessions will continue until February half term.
Blessed Carlo Acutis will leave school following afternoon registration and will begin their swimming lesson at 1:45 pm. This lesson will then conclude at 2:15 pm. Saint Jane Frances de Chantal will arrive prepared to start at 2:15 pm and will finish at 2:45 pm, ensuring the children can be collected, as usual, from school.
The children will need a one-piece swimsuit, towel, swimming goggles and swimming hat in a named bag. The children are also asked to wear their PE kits to school on a Wednesday to make getting changed easier. As we will be walking to and from the River Bourne, children will also require appropriate outdoor clothing and a hat to wear on their return as their hair will be damp and it will be cold.
By ticking the box for Year 4 Swimming Lessons on Arbor, you are consenting for your child to participate in the statutory National Curriculum lessons and walk to and from the River Bourne Health Club. We would be grateful if you could do this by the 23rd October 2024.
Finally, we would greatly appreciate some weekly parental help. If you are available to support, please email your child's teacher.
Kind regards,
Ms Dimech, Mr Rose and Miss Green
(Year 4 Class Teachers and PE coordinator)
