Design and Technology

Mrs Ryan

"Design and Technology prepares children for the rapidly changing world. It encourages children to become independent, creative problem solvers and learn how to develop both independent and collaborative thinking skills. Children are given the opportunity to learn practically and apply their imagination and creativity to design products with a purpose in mind and an intended user of the product.  Following a ‘Design, Make, Evaluate’ approach, children are enabled to talk about how things work, and to draw and model their ideas; to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, and to foster enjoyment, satisfaction and purpose in designing and making. They are encouraged to take risks and taught on how to become reflective, resilient learners.  In all areas of Design and Technology, children are encouraged to consider the effectiveness of their designs and requirements of the product.  Lessons allow children time to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology, including their own creations and the work of others. Through this, the pupils of St Anne’s are given many opportunities to build, learn, and apply a repertoire of knowledge and understanding and skills. This equips them to participate confidently and successfully in our increasingly technological world."
