Cultures Week

9th February 2017

St Anne's Cultures Week
6th - 10th February 2017
Cultural Week - A huge success
A big thank you to each and every one within our school community who have participated and supported our very first Cultural Week.  We have been touched by the amount of effort so many parents have gone to - to share their cultures for the benefit of the children.

We started the week with Irish Dancing in KS2 assembly and as the week has gone on the classes have had in visitors, explored different cultures and shared so much of their own.

Wednesday was the highlight when over 11 cultures were displayed in the hall, in the form of posters, music, artifacts and many delicious dishes.  Each class had the opportunity to visit the stalls, ask questions and absorb the culture!
Whilst all of this was happening, we were treated by year 4 who displayed for us some African drumming.  This was led by the wonderful, Mrs. Houslander. Year 5 had a session with Mrs. Sherwood and put on a display of belly dancing.  Many parents had clearly spent a lot of time preparing for the week; in the form of power points, speeches, cooking, posters and fact sheets.
When we think back to when we first discussed the idea of cultural week, our aim was simple - that the children learn something new which would enhance their tolerance and an 'openness' to other cultures.  That we could engage with parents from all our families especially those from some of our minority cultures. And finally, that we could create a memorable experience for our children. We think we have achieved all of this by working together and making it such a success.
